We begun our Algebra unit by taking on the challenge of designing a staircase that required 3 steps to go up and three to get back down again. We had to work out how it would be made and how many blocks it would take.
Then we tried to work out a key for predicting how many blocks you would need for a 4 step and a 5 step staircase. We worked out that if you multiply the number of steps by the same number, that gives you how many blocks it will need. e.g a 3 step needed 9 blocks, a 5 step staircase needs 25 blocks.
Some year 4 students come in to show us how their recycled can art ended up.
We thought it looked great, well done!
